Adding French Accents to Text

To use accents with French text: Put Num Lock on and hold the ALT key while entering the numbers found on the numeric pad of your computer keyboard:

The following note was sent to me by Karen Theriot Reader re laptop keyboards.

On most laptops, the number pad is superimposed on a section of the keyboard. On my Toshiba it is on the right side. To activate it, hold down the 'Fn' button plus the 'Alt' button on the left side, then type the accent code number. These are written on the front side of the keys, in faint gray.

The keys correspond to the following numbers or symbols:
7 = 7 | 8 = 8 | 9 = 9 | 0 = *
U = 4 | I = 5 | O = 6 | P = -
J = 1 | K = 2 | L = 3 | ; = +
M = 0 | > = . | / = /
